Roberto Maci studied painting and sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in Bologna and graduated in architecture in Florence in 1986. From 1988 to 1991 he worked with Massimo Iosa Ghini on various interior design projects, including the Discoclub Bolidò in New York, Concept car showrooms for Renault Italy and Fiorucci stores. In those years he opened his own studio in Bologna, mainly focusing on architecture and design.
LAB+, interior design and a "green" attitude
In 1998 he set up LAB+ "Laboratorio di Architettura Bioecologica", an initiative aimed at raising awareness about natural living. Currently the studio, which is now internationally-renowned and has a flexible and dynamic structure, is specialised in the design and development of buildings, houses, commercial areas and interior design items, with a special focus on the use of shapes, techniques and materials for natural building solutions.
He designed two stores part of a franchise operating in the food sector in Beijing and DondiSofa's first US store in Dallas. He designs for furniture and interior design companies, including Vistosi, RDS, Mandarina Duck, Target, Prandina, Sofart and Pellizzoni.
In 2008 he became a constituent member of PromoVerde Emilia Romagna, an association that promotes research and development of green high technological solutions applied to architecture.
Artist's statement: ...The home of well-being has living objects inside, easily recognisable and "friendly" presences, similar to us, shapes that slowly settle inside our deepest selves.
