Nodo by Vistosi selected for the 25th Compasso d’oro

Nodo, the lighting system designed by Pio and Tito Toso for Vistosi, is among the 11 lighting equipments that officially entered the race for the 25th Compasso d'Oro, the award that for over sixty years has drawn the attention of the public and specialists alike to the best designers and the best Italian design companies. That was announced on October 8 at the Palazzo Giurenconsulti during the presentation of the ADI Design Index catalogue and the Milan exhibition, the event that annually selects the best results of Italian design – which was attended by the Vistosi CEO Matteo Moretti and the Toso brothers. This is Vistosi’s second nomination for ADI Design Index and comes after the one in 2006 for Diadema, the lighting system based on a single element, the rod of pure glass, designed by Studio Romani Saccani Architetti Associati.

The lightness of Nodo in the élite of Italian design

Nodo was born from the Venetian designers Pio and Tito Toso’s creativity: their design firm, open since 1996, has been working from the very beginning with top brands in the Italian lighting and, more generally, furniture sector, like Alessi, Colombo design, Bosa, Metalco, Rossi di Albizzate, Frighetto, Fly Line and Doimo. For they creations they obtained a number of awards, including 2012 Red Dot Design Award and 2009 Good Design Award. And know comes the acknolewdgement for Nodo, an elegant Murano glass freehand blown product where the two designers wanted to fix the movement of the master glassmaker in an object, impressing in its genetic code the poetic sense of “designing with movement”. A futuristic artwork, mixing he lightness, spontaneity and dynamic charge of a harmonious gesture that materializes and becomes crystal, and light – a downward directional lighting, warmly widespread in the ambient. Available in two sizes also for custom installations, Nodo is a dynamic creation, which is never the same; a strong expression of a free and liberating gesture that lives on the lightness and magic of an undefined project, thus leaving room for fantasy and imagination.

The Toso brothers are already working for the creation of the collections that will be presented at the next Euroluce fair, to be held in Milan, April 4-9 2017.

ADI Design Index, a catalogue and an exhibition to illustrate the current state of play in the world of Italian design

The nominations submitted for analysis by the ADI Permanent Design Observatory to be selected for the ADI Design Index are steadily increasing: for the 2016 edition 907 were nominated and 279 – only 11 of these belonging to the lighting sector – were chosen for the new ADI Design Index. A confirmation of the rigorous nature of the selection criteria applied.

The selected products were presented to the public during an exhibition that has just taken place in Milan and that will be open in Rome, at Ex Cartiera Latina, Sala Appia, Parco Regionale dell'Appia Antica, from 28th October to 1st November 2016 (inauguration: 27th October 2016, 18:00).

Along with product images and information, the catalogue also represents the current state of play in the world of Italian design thanks to essays and comments by Giuliano Noci (Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese territorial campus at the Milan Polytechnic) and essayist Decio GR Carugati, which accompany the presentation by the ADI President Luciano Galimberti and a report from the Scientific Coordination Committee of the permanent ADI Design Observatory that is responsible for the selection.

The 2016 ADI Design Index is organized with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry for the Simplification of Public Administration, the Lombardy Region, the Metropolitan City of Milan, Milan City Council and Confindustria Lombardia.
